After Pocketful and Torrential comes the third, thrilling,
instalment from the finest purveyors of gypsy beat this side of a
Lada scrapheap. Finding their tunes from typically eclectic
sources the lads kick-off proceedings with the old Cole Porter
classic / Love Paris. The old jazz classic is re-delivered for you
in similar mode to that of Summertime from Torrential Goulash.
Dizzy Fingers is a ragtime composition by Zez Confrey
(penman also of the perhaps better known Kitten On The Keys).
Next, a work that shall please all those goulash revolutionaries
so delighted with the universally successful Squeezebox
    Concerto by Rachmaninoff, another under-performed
masterpiece by a famous composer: the Squeezebox Concerto
by Grieg. The Dragon reads the solo part with typical flare and
nonchalant expertise. The Harringay Rhapsody has finally made
its way to tape - but please note this is a 'straight' version - minus
the Jubilee japes many of you will remember from the live show.
The unpronounceable piece at number 5 is an ancient Russian
lament nick-named Russian Tragic by the orchestra for ease of
reference. This old folk song has been leavened with the addition
of a second theme (by Chris Garrick) and features the Klaw's first
    recorded solo melody ever.

At the heart of Legends & Romances nestles a full-blown tone poem
entitled The Trolls Suite in which tales of one of the worlds' most
terrifying legends are told. In the course of this 22-minute musical
behemoth we are introduced to six contrasting trolls: Ringlefinch,
Tosselad, Harding, Mountain King, Rimetosser and lastly, the
monumental lotnar. Each one boasts its own characteristic features
and habits but all bear the classic troll hallmarks. They are
nocturnal, mythical, ancient, heroic and tragic.
The music in the Trolls Suite was written especially for the
Orchestra by Chris Garrick and was, in part, inspired by the recent
André Ovredal film, Trollhunter, in which the extraordinary
revelations over the actual existence of trolls in Norway were first
    disclosed.

The opening Overture establishes palapable drama with its
persistent pedal point rhythm which hammers out a warning of
imminent troll activity. Daylight - the enemy of all trolls - occurs in
glimpses in a gentle joining section. But these are fleeting moments
of calm before the skies darken once again and a re-emerging threat
creates sudden waves of terror. Trolls, whilst utterly terrifying,
possess an inexplicable heroic quality which is alluded to in the
    majestic closing bars.
